Cheese Cloth Tie Dye

SAFETY NOTE Adult supervision required at all times. Fabric dye will stain skin, clothing, and surfaces. Use washable fabric dye. Cover work surfaces and ensure participants wear protective gloves and an apron.

What You'll Need

• Piece of cheesecloth
• Washable fabric dye
• Rubber bands or string
• Protective gloves
• Apron
• Covered work surface or drop cloth
• Bucket or tray for rinsing

Steps

1. Put on gloves and apron before beginning.
2. Fold or scrunch the cheesecloth and secure with rubber bands to create your dye pattern.
3. Apply dye evenly over the folded cloth according to the dye product instructions.
4. Let sit for the time specified on your dye package (typically 15-30 minutes).
5. Rinse lightly with cool water until water runs mostly clear.
6. Remove rubber bands and let dry flat or hang to dry.
